it's a lot of work to maintain an affiliate program so affiliate program networks take this task off people.
They offer statistics and handle off all the payments and so on and so on ... It's also a good way to find out what programs are available..
Not all information providers use clickbank, so its worth looking around for decent and genuine information products that do use it.
